Phony reasons Putin invaded Ukraine
Russia – an aggressor country
The Soviet Union has been an imperialistic country for centuries. That’s how it got so big. The Soviet Union was responsible for the creation of NATO.
After WW2, the U.S. turned the countries they liberated back to the locals. But the Soviets installed puppet governments in the countries of eastern Europe and kept thousands of troop in these countries. Then the Soviets tried to starve Berlin, Germany into submission, resulting in the famed Berlin Airlift, which lasted from Jun 1948 to May 1949. Due to these belligerent Soviet actions and threats of war, NATO was formed in April 1949.
Hitler and Soviet dictator Stalin were allies. In August 1939, they signed a ten year non-aggression pact. This Pact was an agreement by Germany and the Soviet Union on conquering and dividing up Eastern Europe. On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland from the west and on September 17, the Soviets invaded Poland from the east. Germany and the Soviet Union divided Poland in half.
The Soviet Union invaded Finland on November 30, 1939 and forced Finland to sign the Moscow Peace Treaty on 13 March 1940. The League of Nations deemed the attack illegal and expelled the Soviet Union from the League on 14 December 1939. The Soviet Union then took control of the small countries of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in 1940.
In Jan, 2024, Putin signed a decree to allocate funds for the research and registration of Russian property overseas, including that in former territories of the Russian Empire and Soviet Union. Although the decree did not specifically mention Alaska, Russian bloggers argued the 1867 Russian sale to the U.S. is illegal.(A)
U.S. State Department principal deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel responded: “Well, I think I can speak for all of us in the U.S. government to say that certainly he’s not getting it back,”

In the Budapest memorandum of 1994, Ukraine returned its nuclear weapons to Russia. Russia, the UK and the U.S. reaffirmed their commitment to respect the independence, sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine.
After the treaty was signed, the country’s first president, Leonid Kravchuk, grimly remarked: “If tomorrow Russia goes into Crimea, no one will raise an eyebrow.” Recently released archival documents demonstrate how Bill Clinton’s officials, adamant about the country’s denuclearization, ignored the sentiments of Ukraine’s post communist leaders, who were desperate to secure their new country from future Russian imperialism. Phony reasons Putin invaded Ukraine
Putin’s reasons for invading Ukraine keep changing. One day it’s Nazis, the next it’s biolabs, the next Ukraine is not a country and so on. Russia invaded Ukraine for one reason only – re-create the Soviet empire.
————————————————————
** Biolabs in Ukraine. In March 2022, Russian officials claimed that public health facilities in Ukraine were “secret U.S. funded biolabs” purportedly developing biological weapons. This claim, like all the other Russian claims are a Lie. Putin’s claims have been parroted by communist run web sites and far right Republican web sites. Ukraine has dozens of public health laboratories that work to research and mitigate the threats of dangerous diseases.” (C)
“Despite Russian claims that these are “secret” labs, details of US involvement can be found on the US embassy’s website. There are no biological weapons labs operating in Ukraine. Russia has ZERO proof of this but keeps making the same ficticious claims over and over.(D)
Even Russian sources have said the accusations concerning biological weapons labs are false. Russian scientists visited these same laboratories in the past and never noted anything like what Russian officials now claim. Moreover, the United States had been providing similar assistance to Russia to refocus the activities of former Soviet biological weapons laboratories, until Russia pulled out of the program in 2014.(E)(F)

** Must ‘denazify’ Ukraine. There is a small number of Nazis in Ukraine but they have no say in
government policy. Many countries – including the U.S. – also have small Nazi groups but they have no
influence on policy. Also, Zelensky is Jewish. His grandfather fought in the Soviet Army against the Nazis, and his family lost relatives in the Holocaust. (G)

Ukraine doesn’t exist: Russia has never accepted Ukraine’s existence as an independent nation. Putin has claimed Ukraine was an artificial state, an accident of history, a wayward part of the so-called
“Russian world.” Putin has outright denied Ukraine’s legitimacy as a sovereign nation.
“I have said many times that I consider the Russian and Ukrainian people to be one nation. In this sense, all of Ukraine is ours,” Putin said. “There is an old rule: ‘Where a Russian soldier sets foot, that is ours.’” (H)

NATO’S eastward expansion: If NATO wanted to attack Russia, they had plenty of opportunity to do so in the 1990s and early 2000.
Russia has not been provoked by the enlargement of NATO. NATO is a defensive organization and has never threatened Russia. The nations of eastern Europe who were enslaved by the Soviet Union after WW2 know Russsia is an imperialistic country and has been for centuries.
NATO has maintained peace in Europe for the past 75 years – until Putin came along. Putin is afraid of the success of its former vassals in building democratic and free societies. And that poses a threat to Putin’s authoritarian regime.
Putin has never hidden his nostalgia for the ‘good ole days’ of the Soviet Union. On 25 Apr 2005, Putin described the collapse of the Soviet Union as “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe” of the 20th century. In justifying his relentless military buildup, Putin said: “We are a free nation and our place in the modern world will be defined only by how successful and strong we are.” Putin said the break-up of the USSR in 1991 was “a real drama” which left tens of millions of Russians outside the Russian Federation. Of course, Putin wants them back. Russia wants all of their former slave countries back.
Russia conquered Chechnya in 1999, the country of Georgia in 2008, conquered Crimea in eastern
Ukraine in 2014 and then started a war to conquer Donetsk and Luhansk provinces in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine’s desire to join NATO was not a provocation. It was a response to Russian aggression and Moscow’s long-standing efforts to control Ukraine politically, economically and culturally. This was never just about Ukraine. It was a broader push to reassert Russian dominance over its former empire.

and the REAL reason Putin invaded Ukraine
With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia lost it’s empire, military power and Great Power status. The ONLY reason Putin started a massive military buildup and invaded Chechnia in 1999, the country of Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine was to rebuild the Russian Empire. That’s it. (J)(K)(L)
On 17 Dec. 2021, with about 175,000 Russian troops surrounding Ukraine, Russia suddenly demanded NATO withdraw from Eastern Europe entirely, rolling back security guarantees for Poland, the Baltics and other frontline states – along with other demands. NATO’s refusal to sign this treaty. It would have left eastern Europe defenseless. This was the justification Putin needed to start his war of aggression against Ukraine.
Russia felt they now had the military might to confront NATO after 20 years of military buildup. This is a push to reassert Russian dominance over its former empire.(I) Putin believes Russians are superior to every other ethnic group/race.
