Why we must defend Ukraine

America First?? Russia First?? Or America Only??

Preventing Russia from conquering Ukraine IS in our national interest – ‘America First!’ Allowing Russia to conquer Ukraine is “Russia First.” Putin is a war monger and the number one threat to world peace today. He has complete disregard for international law, norms and human rights and will only be stopped by unified economic, political and military pressure. Russia is a rogue state.

Some wars are not worth getting involved in – but some ARE. Ukraine is a war we MUST win – or lots of bad things will happen around the world. Abandoning Ukraine will end the international order and overall peace we have known since 1945. All the news will be on the millions of refugees and genocide in Ukraine. And the world will rightly hold America responsible for this slaughter. The U.S. will be the world’s pariah nation. Is this what we want?

Abandoning Ukraine – ‘America Only’ – would encourage Putin to attack a NATO country in eastern
Europe and guarantee World War Three. Then Americans will start dying and the cost of the war will soar – far more then what we are spending on Ukraine now.

China and North Korea will be emboldened to act. China would use this opportunity to conquer Taiwan.

Although European countries have given huge amounts of aid and weapons to Ukraine, they don’t have the ability to stand up to Russia. Without U.S. weapons and our nuclear shield, Ukraine will fall.

Another issue is Trump’s isolationist tendencies. There are isolationists in Washington today who
unwisely want to withdraw from NATO. Isolationism – ‘America Only’ – was okay in George Washington’s time, but not today. Isolationists are incredibly naive people who think allowing the rest of the world to be destroyed won’t negatively affect the U.S. US isolationism in the 1930s – ‘America Only’ – caused World War Two to be bigger and deadlier then it should have been. We lost 400,000 Americans.
Isolationism does NOT bring peace. It brings war. MAGA means America first, not isolationism.

Constant criticism of money spent on Ukraine ignores all the good this money has done. Says Brit Hume: “With zero American lives lost in battle and less than $375 spent per American (based on a total of $120 billion in aid), Mr. Zelensky’s military and civilian population have helped America and its allies by destroying or disabling thousands of Russian aircraft and land-based vehicles, communication systems and other equipment. Russia’s military command structure, morale and recruiting have been degraded.

American defense contractors have tested new weapons systems in wartime conditions and Ukrainian fighters have innovated in unforeseen ways. Our economy has benefitted from Americans building war material in American plants and sending them to Ukraine. Mr. Zelensky has thanked America many times for our support. It is now time for America to thank him.”

We saw a preview of what would happen in Ukraine when House Speaker Johnson unwisely held up critical aid to Ukraine for 6 months in 2024. Hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers died because of Johnson. Russia’s capture of the town of Avdiivka on Feb. 2024 was due to a lack of artillery.

In FY 2024 under Biden, the U.S. government spent around $6.75 trillion, with revenue of $4.9 trillion. This resulted in a budget deficit of over $1.8 trillion. The amount of money spent on Ukraine is a drop in the bucket. We need to cut spending by trillions of dollars throughout the government without sacrificing Ukraine or cutting back on our military capabilities.
